Polygon network: MATIC Troubleshooting

In this article we go over some of the common issues with your Polygon MATIC network assets inside of Exodus wallet and how to fix them.

In this Article:

How is it possible to send to the wrong address?

MATIC is a unique asset in the fact that the project behind it, Polygon, is designing it to be a layer 2 solution to blockchains.

What this means is that the Polygon MATIC network is going to help scale, secure, and offer a way to easily connect what it calls basechains. Ethereum is the first basechain that the Polygon MATIC network supports and therefore the MATIC ERC20 token will always exist alongside the MATIC Mainnet asset. The Polygon MATIC protocol will then ensure that different compatible basechains can then also interact with Ethereum and each other in an easier way with the introduction of the Polygon MATIC Mainnet Network.

Currently, Exodus only supports the ERC20 version of MATIC and since the Polygon MATIC Mainnet blockchain addresses work in a very similar way to the Ethereum network, it is easy to accidentally send your Mainnet MATIC assets to your Exodus ERC20 MATIC wallet.

Please do not worry though! This article will show you how you can retrieve your Mainnet MATIC assets sent to your Exodus wallet.

Mainnet MATIC sent to Exodus desktop

To retrieve your Mainnet MATIC assets, this process will require the use of a desktop computer and Metamask, but it only takes a few minutes!

1
Go to Metamask's website and download the Metamask wallet.
2
Now please open your Exodus wallet, and open your Ethereum wallet that you accidentally sent your Mainnet MATIC asset to.
3
Please export the private key from the Ethereum wallet inside of Exodus. Here's how you can obtain your Private Key: How do I view my private keys?
4
Copy your Exodus Ethereum Private Key.
5
Open Metamask and import your Ethereum private key by clicking on Import Account.
6
After importing your Private Key, click on Main Ethereum Network at the top of the Metamask wallet screen and select Custom RPC.
7
Then, copy and paste these details in the relevant sections:
1. Network Name: MATIC Mainnet
2. RPC: https://rpc-mainnet.maticvigil.com
3. ChainID: 137
4. Symbol: MATIC
5. Block Explorer: https://explorer.matic.network
Then click Save.

Please note: After submitting the RPC URL if you see an error that prompts that the 'Chain ID' is incorrect. You can fix this by choosing another RPC URL from one of the others that are listed by Matic here.

8
Now please go back to the main wallet balance page by clicking the big X in the top right of Metamask.

And that is it! Your Mainnet MATIC asset will show in your Metamask wallet, and you are then able to send them to a platform that supports the Mainnet MATIC asset.
