How do I take a screenshot?

When interacting with an Exodus Community Support Engineer from Exodus support, they may ask you to take a screenshot of Exodus, or maybe you are here because Exodus support sent you this guide to show you how to take a screenshot.

This article will show you how to take a screenshot on most systems.

Please note: Exodus staff will NEVER ask for sensitive information, including passwords, private keys, or 12-word secret recovery phrases. Be careful not to include your Exodus 12-word secret recovery phrase, private keys, or password in any screenshot you take.

How do I take a screenshot on Desktop?

Windows

For Microsoft Windows, we suggest using the Snipping Tool to capture parts of your screen or Alt + PrnScn to capture the entire screen.

In order to take a screenshot with the Snipping Tool, click on the Windows start icon inside your computer's taskbar.

Type in Snipping Tool and click the icon to start the program.

Choose what mode you want to use then click New and choose what area you want to take a screenshot of.

macOS

For macOS, there are built-in keystrokes that allow you to take a screenshot instantly.

Full screen Press and hold: Shift+Command+3
Portion of screen Press and hold: Shift+Command+4
Capture a specific window Press and hold: Shift+Command+4+Space

Once you have taken the screenshot you can find the screenshot as a .png file on your desktop.

Linux

For Linux, each distro could have a different way to take a screenshot. These instructions will show you how to take a screenshot on Ubuntu 18.04.3.

Open the Applications drawer by clicking the 9 dots in your taskbar.

Find the search bar at the top.

Type in: Screenshot and click on the Screenshot application.

Set up the screenshot settings as you wish to take your screenshot.


How do I take a screenshot on Mobile?

iOS

Open the app you want to screenshot and go to the exact screen you want to capture.

Press and hold the Power button on the right side of the phone and press the Home button at the exact same time. On iPhone X and greater, press and hold the Side button on the right side and press the Volume Up button at the exact same time, this replaces the Home button step from previous iPhones.

The screen will flash white and you'll hear the camera shutter sound if your sound is enabled.

Android

For Android, each device could have a different way to take a screenshot.

In general to take a screenshot, press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time. If your device has a physical Home button, press and hold the Power and Home buttons instead.
