Avalanche network troubleshooting

Common issues with sending tokens on the Avalanche network and how to fix them.

In this article:

How is it possible to send to the wrong address?

The Avalanche C Chain is a popular EVM-compatible network that settles transactions in under one second. Currently, Exodus only provides support for the network's primary asset AVAX.

What this means is that it is possible to accidentally choose the Avalanche network when withdrawing other assets to your Exodus wallet address.

If you have sent tokens other than AVAX to your Exodus wallet using the Avalanche network, you will require the use of a desktop computer and MetaMask to retrieve your assets.

How to recover tokens sent using the Avalanche network?

Token sent to Exodus Desktop

1
Go to MetaMask's website and download the MetaMask wallet.
2
Next, please open your Exodus wallet, and open the asset wallet that you accidentally sent the funds to over the Avalanche network.
3
Export the private key from the wallet inside of Exodus. Here's how you can obtain your private key: How do I view my private keys?
4
Open MetaMask and import your private key by clicking on Import Account.
5
After importing your private key, a) click on Ethereum Mainnet at the top of the MetaMask wallet screen and b) select Add Network.

6
Your browser will open a new tab in which you can copy and paste these details in the relevant sections:
a) Network Name: Avalanche C Chain
b) RPC: https://api.avax.network/ext/bc/C/rpc
c) ChainID: 43114
d) Symbol: AVAX
e) Block Explorer: https://snowtrace.io

Then click Save.
7
Now please open MetaMask and go to the bottom and click on Import tokens.

8
After you click on Import tokens you will see you need to find the Token Contract Address. To find the contract address all you need to do is:
  1. Open the Avalanche token list and find the asset you accidentally sent and click on it.
  2. Under Profile Summary in the top right you will see Contract, please copy the contract address.

9
Now, back in MetaMask, paste in the contract address and the rest of the information should appear by itself. Then click Add Custom Token.

You should now see your tokens appear, just click Import Tokens.

10

Finally, send your tokens back to the address where you originally sent them from.

Please note: You'll need some AVAX in the wallet on the Avalanche C Chain network before you can move your funds out of MetaMask. You can use this Coinmarketcap list to find where to purchase some.

Token sent to Exodus Mobile

To retrieve your assets sent on the Avalanche C Chain network you will require the use of a desktop computer and MetaMask, but it only takes a few minutes!

1
First, you'll need to download the Desktop version of Exodus here.
2
Next, write down your mobile wallet's 12-word secret recovery phrase. To find this, please see this guide.

Please note: These 12-words are your master key for your wallet. It is incredibly important for you to keep your 12-word phrase safe as it is the only way to recover your funds should something happen to your wallet. Please see our article Everything you need to know about your 12-word secret recovery phrase for tips on keeping your 12-word phrase safe.

3
Now you will need to restore your mobile wallet to the desktop wallet you just downloaded. To do this, please read this guide.
4
The rest of the instructions are the same as above in the token sent to Exodus Desktop on Avalanche network section.

If you do not have access to a trusted computer, you can retrieve your Avalance C Chain token with your 12-word secret recovery phrase and the MetaMask mobile app.

Please note: This process is not recommended unless you do not have a trusted desktop computer, as it exposes your Exodus 12-word secret recovery phrase. Desktop methods only use the private key of one asset, which is far more secure. You can read more about the risks of using your 12-word secret recovery phrase here: Using the secret 12-word secret recovery phrase.

1
Go to MetaMask's website and install the mobile MetaMask wallet. Tap on Import using Secret Recovery Phrase.

2
Enter your Exodus 12-word secret recovery phrase with a space between each word. Set a strong password and tap Import.

3
Next, tap the three bars at the top left of your screen.

4
Tap Settings.

5
Tap Networks.

6
Tap the Add Network button.

7
Then, copy and paste these details in the relevant sections:
a) Network Name: Avalanche C Chain
b) RPC: https://api.avax.network/ext/bc/C/rpc
c) ChainID: 43114
d) Symbol: AVAX
e) Block Explorer: https://snowtrace.io

Then tap Add.
8
And that is it! Your Avalance C Chain asset will show in your MetaMask wallet, and you are then able to send them to a platform that supports the Avalanche C Chain asset.

Token sent to Trezor
