What is KAVA staking?

Staking KAVA means locking up a chosen amount of your KAVA. Staked KAVA can't be sent or swapped.

However, you can unstake your KAVA whenever you choose. KAVA takes 21 days to finish unstaking.

By staking your KAVA, you actively support the Kava network by allocating resources to it and contributing to the stability of the Kava network. Staking allows you to earn KAVA rewards, which can be claimed from your Exodus wallet.

KAVA staking is available on Exodus Mobile and Exodus Desktop.

Staking KAVA FAQs

What happens when I stake my KAVA?

Staking means pledging an amount of your KAVA to a validator. This makes you a delegator.

Kava validators validate and approve transactions on the Kava blockchain. The more KAVA delegated to a validator, the more transactions they get to validate, so the more rewards they earn. By delegating your tokens to the validator, you are voting for and signaling your trust in them.

The more transactions a validator validates, the more money they earn. From the earned rewards, they give back to everyone who delegated their KAVA to them. This is how you earn rewards on your staked KAVA.

How does staking work?

When you stake your KAVA, you choose how much of your KAVA you want to delegate to the validator.

You can stake any amount of KAVA, for which you immediately start accumulating rewards.

Your staked KAVA can't be sent or swapped.

Exodus will reserve 0.165 KAVA that stays in your wallet. This ensures that you'll have enough KAVA available to pay for transaction fees when you wish to unstake.

Staking new KAVA will automatically claim any unclaimed rewards, which will incur a network transaction fee.

Which validator will I be delegating my funds to?

When you stake KAVA in Exodus, you will be delegating your funds to the third-party staking API provider Everstake.

How much can I earn from staking my KAVA?

To learn more about Annual Percentage Yield (APY), please visit: What is APY?

You can view the current approximate APY in your KAVA wallet.

Mobile

Your KAVA stake section will show a) your current APY in the top left corner and b) the APY if you choose to enable auto restaking.

Does Exodus charge a fee to stake my KAVA?

You will pay network transaction fees when staking KAVA. 100% of these fees go to the Kava network.

You will pay a transaction fee for sending the delegation transaction when you first stake your KAVA and another whenever you stake additional KAVA.

If you choose not to enable auto restaking, you'll also pay a transaction fee to claim KAVA rewards.

You will need to wait to claim your KAVA rewards until you have earned enough to cover the network transaction fee, because the transaction fee is deducted from the rewards.

Enabling auto restaking charges a network transaction fee to register the auto restaking request to the network. However, if you enable auto restaking, you won't pay transaction fees when your rewards are restaked.

Disabling auto restaking also charges a network transaction fee.

What is the minimum amount I need to start staking?

You can stake any amount of KAVA above the minimum balance requirement of 0.165 KAVA.

The minimum balance of 0.165 KAVA is reserved to ensure you can pay the Kava network transaction fees to stake and unstake.

When will I start earning rewards?

You will start to earn rewards on your KAVA as soon as you stake it.

If you opt into auto restaking, your rewards will automatically be restaked once they reach 0.1 KAVA.

If you choose not to enable auto restaking, you can claim your KAVA rewards manually as long as the amount of the rewards is greater than the claim transaction fee.

Is staking KAVA safe?

Staking your KAVA is done in a self-custodial way in Exodus. That means it is as safe as holding KAVA in your wallet.

You keep full control over your KAVA tokens while they're staked, and you're free to unstake your funds whenever you choose.

Note that it will take 21 days after unstaking before your KAVA is available to send or swap.

How does auto restaking work?

When auto restaking is enabled, your wallet will check your rewards balance once a week. If you have more than 0.1 KAVA in unclaimed rewards, they will automatically be restaked.

Enabling auto restaking will incur a network fee. However, once enabled, you won't pay transaction fees when your rewards are restaked.

While auto restaking is active, you will not be able to claim your rewards manually. If you would prefer to manage your KAVA rewards manually, you can disable auto restaking at any time. Note that disabling auto restaking will also incur a transaction fee.
